Job Description
Assumes responsibility for the assembly, operation and maintenance of technical equipment to designed to amplify, enhance, record, mix or reproduce sound for live performances of the Hartt School. Performs all duties in full support of the University's mission, understanding that the positive and effective execution of these duties are instrumental to the education of the University's students.

Description of Key Responsibility:
Maintains, services and repairs technical and sound equipment for The Hartt School. Assembles, tests and operates equipment in accordance with the acoustics of the designated venue. Selects, places and/or adjusts microphones. Monitors audio signals during performances to detect quality deviations or malfunctions making adjustments accordingly. *

Description of Key Responsibility:
Adheres to health and safety standards for the recording environment and live performances. Maintains the theater, anticipating and reacting to various issues as they occur.

Description of Key Responsibility:
Assists the stage crew with pre-show responsibilities including, but not limited to, mopping the stage as well as setting up decks, chairs, props and acoustic shells.

Description of Key Responsibility:
Maintains a thorough knowledge of lighting equipment. Operates lighting boards and systems for productions as necessary and/or appropriate.

Provides assistance to light technician(s) with the light hang as necessary and/or appropriate. Maintains and operates the light hang.

Formal Education:
Vocational or other technical school, certification, training or apprenticeship beyond high school required.

Work Experience:
Requries extensive safety training and/or protective devices. Regular exposure to moving machinery and/or vehicles. Regular exposure to radiant or electrical energy (e.g., ionizing radiation). Regular exposure to chemicals, solvents. Works in darkness or with poor lighting. Works on slippery or uneven surfaces.

Impact of Actions:
Makes recommendations or decisions which usually affect the project team.

Complexity:
Varied. Work is complex and varied and requires the selection and application of technical and detailed guidelines. Problems are not easy to identify, but are similar to those seen before. Moderate analytical ability is needed to gather and interpret data where results/answers can be found after analysis of several facts. Solutions can often be found by using methods chosen before in other situations.

Decision Making:
Varied: Supervisor is available on an as-needed basis to establish general objectives and to identify potential resources for assistance. Independent judgment is required to select and apply the most appopriate of available guidelines and procedures to achieve desired results.

Internal Communication:
Requires regular contacts to discuss issues of moderate importance and to respond to inquiries. Occasionally requires contact with officials at higher levels on matters requiring cooperation, explanation and persuasion.

External Communication:
Requires occasional contact with outside agencies and the general public supplying or gathering factual information.

Customer Relations
Contact with customers involves furnishing or obtaining factual information over the telephone, in writing or in person. Requires normal courtesy and tact in dealing with others.

Managerial Skills
Has responsibility or authority which is limited to the direction of temporary or student workers.

Knowledge and Skills
Formal Technical Skills: Requires extensive knowledge of a distinct trade or technical area. Knows policies and procedures, and can recommend a course of action based upon these guidelines, modifying existing methods, procedures or forms as necessary. May work with software applications.

Special Skills
The ability to work effectively with diverse groups.
