Nebraska Wesleyan University invites applications for a full-time visiting Assistant Professor of Musical Theatre and Directing for the Theatre Arts Program. The start date for this position will be August 2024.

This is a full-time, benefit eligible position, which includes a comprehensive package including health, vision and dental insurance benefits, retirement benefits, and a generous holiday schedule, among other benefits. Due to the timing of the academic year for this opening at NWU, the position status will be set as a one-year visiting position with an anticipated national search for a tenure-track position being conducted early in 2025. Visiting candidates may apply for the tenure-track position in 2025 with consideration for current service.


This faculty member will play a primary role in helping coordinate NWU's BFA Musical Theatre program. Responsibilities include teaching musical theatre classes and voice lessons, and serving as musical director and/or stage director for musical theatre productions. Depending on the applicant’s qualifications, other duties may include teaching dance, theatre classes in the acting and directing curricula, staging plays, and choreography.


  • Terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Theatre or MA with five or more years of professional musical theatre and directing experience.

  • Previous teaching and stage direction experience and prospective student recruitment experience preferred.

  • Ability to work collaboratively with other faculty, staff, directors and designers.

  • Ability to maintain a strong, positive, professional approach to theatre training.
