Job Description:
The Department of Drama, within the College of Visual and Performing Arts, a highly ranked BFA program uniquely integrated with a major regional theater, seeks to hire an Assistant Teaching Professor in Dance for its Musical Theater Program with expertise in traditional and contemporary theater dance forms, including, but not limited to, hip hop, street jazz, social dance styles and partnering. The department is actively seeking candidates who value equity and inclusion, who incorporate marginalized voices and perspectives into their pedagogy, and who have experience mentoring students and/or performers of diverse identities. We are looking for collaborative colleagues who will participate in the life of a vibrant department. Selected candidates will teach dance courses at all levels within the performance curriculum, and, depending upon expertise, may choreograph and/or direct departmental productions.

Responsibilities:
  • Teach a variety of courses at all levels as assigned by the Chair and based upon expertise.
  • Engage in inclusive pedagogy and the advancement of inclusion, equity, diversity, and cultural wealth.
  • Work on departmental productions as assigned by the chair.
  • Serve as both an academic and creative advisor to students, guiding them in the creation and realization of professional quality work in accordance with current emerging best professional practices.
  • Engage in continued professional creative work and/or research.
  • Maintain currency in relevant pedagogical practice.
  • Participate in service and committee work for Department, College of Visual and Performing Arts, and Syracuse University.
