The Long Beach City College Performing Arts Department is seeking a Limited Term Costume Technician for immediate hire. The Costume Technician is responsible for managing, coordinating, overseeing and participating in the design, construction and maintenance of costumes for theater and dance productions. An incumbent interprets costume designs, takes measurements, creates and revises costume plots and patterns and constructs costumes in accordance with costume design and construction principles and practices. An incumbent is also responsible for providing training and work direction to student costume crews.

Duties

GENERAL PURPOSE

Under general supervision, manages, coordinates and oversees the operations of the theater's costume shop; creates and revises costume plots and patterns; constructs new costumes and pulls and prepares costumes from existing stock for use in new productions; ensures proper maintenance and operation of costume shop equipment; and performs related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THIS POSITION:

Education, Training and Experience:

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is an Associate's degree in costume or fashion design or a closely related field; and two years of progressively responsible costume design and construction experience; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

Licenses; Certificates; Special Requirements:
A valid California driver's license and the ability to maintain insurability under the District's vehicle insurance policy.

Meeting the minimum requirements of the position does not guarantee advancement in the selection process. Candidate qualifications will be assessed to determine those who meet and exceed requirements, and are deemed most competitive amongst the applicant pool to proceed.
