The Theater Assistant is an as-needed, on-call assignment that is responsible for the seating and the safety of patrons in all performance venues. The incumbents are expected to offer the highest level of customer service possible to guests, donors, visiting artists, artist management, patrons, and any other member of the public or administration they may encounter. Additional duties and responsibilities include selling, scanning, tearing, and/or collecting ticket stubs, assisting patrons that may require accommodations, checking assigned section for cleanliness, and visually sweeping the theaters to check for potential safety issues and lost and found items. We are looking for candidates who will have the ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends and holidays.

A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined above is graduation from high school or G.E.D. equivalent and demonstration of the understanding of, sensitivity to, and appreciation for the diverse, ethnic, socioeconomic, disability and gender diversity of staff attending or working with the theater. REQUIREMENTS

1. High School Diploma or G.E.D equivalent.
2. Must employ skillful critical thinking and ethical reasoning skills with stress-management (in dealing with emergencies or other instances which arise in the performance venue).
3. Ability to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays.
4. Ability to read small print.
5. Ability to lift 50 lbs waist high, and able to assist with set up of furniture for events as directed.
6. Ability to climb steps repeatedly
7. Ability to descend/ascend ramps and inclines/declines
8. Ability to stand for long periods of time.
9. Work in a fast-paced, busy environment with environmental conditions such as noise, heights, dark/dim/absence of lighting.
10. Ability to bend, stretch, reach and kneel without restriction.
11. Communicate effectively in English.
12. Must be able to open theater doors repeatedly throughout shift.
13. Deal effectively with a wide variety of personalities and situations requiring diplomacy, tact, friendliness.
14. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with those contacted in the performance of required duties.
15. Demonstrate an understanding of, sensitivity to and appreciation for the diverse ethnic, socio-economic, disability and gender diversity of guests and staff attending or working with the theater.
16. Proof of eligibility to work in the United States.
17. Maintain a professional, neat and well-groomed appearance.

PHYSICAL AND MENTAL DEMANDS

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this class, an employee is regularly required to stand or sit for long periods of time and patrol the theater. use hands to finger, handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to hear conversations and equipment signal warnings. The employee is frequently required to walk; sit; climb stairs; stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl.

The employee may frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and or move up to 100 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Mental Demands

While performing the duties of this class, incumbents are regularly required to use written and oral communication skills; read and understand documents; analyze and solve problems; observe and interpret situations; learn and apply new information and skills; perform detailed work with frequent interruptions; and interact with College management, administrators, staff, students, the public and others encountered in the course of work.
